          Doors will open at 5pm; we will start serving dinner around 5:15

Solving a 100 year old mystery (play)
Agatha Christie published her mystery novel “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” in 1926, her third to feature detective Hercule Poirot. Well received, some have called it her masterpiece, with a twist ending that had a great impact on the murder mystery genre. In 2013, the British Crime Writers’ Association voted it the best crime novel ever. In 1928, Michael Morton adapted the story for the stage and retitled it “Alibi”. It opened at the Prince of Wales Theatre and was a hit, featuring Charles Laughton as Poirot. It later came to Broadway and Samuel French published the script. And now it is in the public domain, because the novel and script are over 95 years old. It certainly doesn’t perform that way!

What is the meaning of

"Ironclad Alibi"

· Literal: Derived from the "ironclad" warships (like the Merrimack) of the Civil War era, which were covered in iron plating, making them nearly impenetrable.

· Figurative: An alibi so strong, well-documented, and verifiable that it's impossible to disprove, offering complete protection from suspicion.

· The World of an Agatha Christie mystery: Not very likely…especially with Hercule Poirot on
